B I S Poetry Slam 2017

The Slam took place at SAIACS Convention Centre and the space, classy yet intimate, was perfect for the spirit of the Slam. The young poets dazzled us with their passion and wit, their words often eliciting applause, gasps, laughter and sometimes even tears. The students in the audience marveled at how well the ones on stage echoed their sentiments and the adults in the audience wondered if they were ever as bold and as articulate as the 16-18 year olds on stage…

Phil Kaye

Raised in a California beach town to a Japanese mother and Jewish-American father, Phil first fell in love with spoken word poetry at age 17. Since then, he has performed in hundreds of venues in fifteen countries. He is the co-director of Project VOICE. Through his work with Project VOICE, Phil has worked hands-on with students of all different ages in over a hundred schools around the world.
